Lighthouse
Type: active game, calm game
Number of players: 10 or more
Location: playing field without obstacles!
Equipment: none (probably blindfolds)
Duration: up to 5 minutes per round
Preparation: none

Lighthouse is a calm active game. It is most fun for groups of about 10 to 20 players, but can be played with more as well.

Equipment

If you trust your players, you don't need any equipment; else, use blindfolds :-)

Procedure

One player is selected to represent a ship, another one is the light house. Both start at opposing ends of the playing field. All other players are standing in between those two, representing rocks, sand banks, and other obstacles. Due to heavy fog, the ship has very limited sight; he closes his eyes (or is blindfolded).

The ship has to safely reach the harbor near the lighthouse. To do so, the lighthouse sends an acoustic signal every now and then (or on request of a similar signal by the ship's horn). The obstacles also have signals, but more subtle ones (breaking of waves, noises of the wind, etc.)

Is the ship able to reach the lighthouse without colliding with one of the obstacles?

Variations

  • You can add more lighthouse s that have to be reached one after the other.
