Leonardo da Vinci bridge
Type: coordination game, Group dynamics game
Number of players: several groups of about 5 members each
Location: on a table
Equipment: longer sticks (long matches, etc.)
Duration: about 20 minutes
Preparation: none

The Leonardo da Vinci bridge is a group dynamics task. The participants have to build a bridge based on the model designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

Equipment

You need lots of equally sized, longer, usually wooden sticks. Usually, longer matches are used for that. Depending on the size and material of the sticks, the level of difficulty changes.

Task

The task of each team is to create a Bridge based on the design by Leonardo da Vinci. No other equipment than the provided sticks may be used.

Usually, the game is split into several stages. First, the task is given to the teams. They then have several minutes to discuss and devise a strategy how to build the bridge (define if they may or may not touch the sticks during that time). Then, they got a short time (like 3 minutes) o build the actual bridge.

You can define that nobody may talk while building; this makes the task more complicated, but will reveal other aspects of the cooperation in the team.
